Installation and updates
Role Rover is preparing for Chrome Web Store publication. Once listed, use the store's Add to Chrome control, review Chrome's permission prompt, and open Role Rover from the Extensions menu. Pinning is optional. Open the popup and choose Open Role Rover for the full application.
Chrome normally updates store extensions automatically. To check the installed version, open Role Rover Settings or Chrome's Extensions page. Do not install packages from an untrusted download link.
Manage permissions
Core permissions support local storage, alarms, notifications, active-page inspection, and scripts used only for visible features. Job-board and ATS permissions are bounded to declared domains; many are optional and requested when you choose that workflow.
Review or revoke site access in Chrome's extension details. Revoking access can make a source or field-review workflow unavailable until you grant it again. Disconnect Apify in Role Rover to remove both its saved token and optional API permission.
Source sign-in and human verification
If a source shows blocked or verification required, open it from Monitors. Sign in or complete the human-verification step yourself, then return to Role Rover and retry. Role Rover does not bypass authentication, CAPTCHA, or anti-automation controls.
Ready means the latest bounded check completed normally. Stale means the available result is old. Partial means some work completed but the snapshot is incomplete. Blocked means the source could not proceed. Zero results means the completed search returned no usable listings; it does not prove that no matching jobs exist anywhere.
If a site changed, retain the visible source-health details and export sanitized diagnostics. A markup change can temporarily reduce collection or field-review reliability.
DOCX and PDF résumé guidance
Use a conventional DOCX or a text-based PDF under 25 MB. PDFs are limited to 100 pages and one million extracted characters. Scanned image-only PDFs do not contain enough readable text and should be converted with trustworthy OCR or exported from the original editor.
Extraction confidence measures readable structure, not truth. Review identity, contact details, dates, employers, achievements, education, certifications, and skills. Correct errors before verification. Reanalyze to fill missing extracted data without intentionally overwriting manual edits or prior verification decisions.
Optional AI-provider setup
Chrome built-in AI
Role Rover can use Chrome's Prompt API only when Chrome exposes it and reports the browser-managed model ready. A download-required or downloading state is not ready.
Ollama
Install and run Ollama locally, make an appropriate model available, then use Role Rover Settings to check localhost readiness. Data stays between the extension and your local Ollama process, but the model and device remain part of your security boundary.
Claude companion and Anthropic API
The separate local companion is optional. Review the disclosure before enabling it. The companion can use an authenticated Claude CLI or an Anthropic API credential stored in macOS Keychain. Qualification operations exclude identity/contact facts; raw résumé sharing for monitor recommendations has separate consent.
When AI fails or times out, deterministic matching remains available. Inspect AI Activity for the local request/response record and provider status without sharing it blindly.
USAJOBS is unavailable or fails setup
USAJOBS requires your own registered API email and key. Use the same email associated with the key, then Save and test. Disconnect and reconnect after correcting rejected credentials.
Apify
Apify requires your own token, optional permission, and confirmation before each potentially billable run. See the guide's provider boundaries before setup.
An Application Pack looks wrong
Review the pack's generation label, verified evidence, and current résumé-change warning. Edit the draft or verify better evidence rather than approving incomplete or misleading language.
Backup and restore
In Settings, keep password protection enabled for the default encrypted backup. Use a strong password you can retain securely; Role Rover cannot recover it. Plain JSON is readable and should be chosen only after the warning is understood.
To restore, select the backup, enter its password if encrypted, review the validation prompt, and confirm. Restore replaces the extension's local dataset only after validation. Optional USAJOBS and Apify credentials are not included and must be configured again.
Export before uninstalling or moving browser profiles. Uninstalling removes browser-managed extension data according to Chrome's behavior but does not delete backups already downloaded to your computer.
Known limitations
- Monitoring runs only while the browser and device are available.
- Third-party site changes, authentication, verification, and rate limits can reduce collection or filling reliability.
- Text-based résumé extraction varies with document structure; image-only PDFs are unsupported.
- AI output can be incomplete or wrong and remains subject to review.
- Browser notification creation does not prove the operating system displayed the alert.
- Role Rover does not submit applications or guarantee interviews, offers, source completeness, or employer responses.
Report a problem safely
In Settings, choose Export sanitized diagnostics. The report contains aggregate operational information and excludes résumé text, job content, URLs, application values, AI payloads, credentials, API keys, and CAPTCHA material. Review the JSON yourself before sharing.
Email support@getrolerover.com with the installed version, what you expected, what happened, safe reproduction steps, and the reviewed diagnostic file if useful. Never send passwords, cookies, API keys, CAPTCHA content, an unredacted résumé, or private application materials.
